Bridging the Disconnect

4 things you can do to make the financial conversation yours

One of the hidden problems that many of us face is that money hasn’t been a conversation we’ve been encouraged to address or discuss – and certainly not to the positive. What we’re left with is a vault of negative feelings that show up in ways that we may not realize.

Locked away are feelings like guilt, shame, stress, confusion, and embarrassment. These feelings didn’t just appear, and they lead to powerful beliefs and results that manifest in our lives.

I’m here to tell you that these feelings don’t have to remain! To acknowledge your feelings leads you to a better understanding of the hidden beliefs that have resulted from them.

Here are four key beliefs that you can shift in order to make the financial conversation truly your own.

Inclusive
A belief that I see resulting from negative feelings time and time again is that the financial conversation is only for some. I have a core belief that the financial conversation is for all! It’s a conversation that everyone should be included in because it’s a part of everyone’s life.

Believing that you are included in the financial conversation is a powerful first step to positive change!

Approachable
When you start to feel and believe that you are included in the conversation, the topic can become much more approachable. A key word we’ve been using here is conversation. Having a discussion is a two-way street. Knowing that you are not only included in the conversation but central to it helps to make finances something that is yours.

Understandable
Shifting the belief that finances are both inclusive and approachable allows it to be understandable. How? Your standard and expectations have changed! It’s through this that you will start to expect to be spoken with instead of at.

Applicable
When you’ve shifted the beliefs we’ve talked about so far, the conversation now applies to you in a meaningful way. It’s now yours. From here, the positive cycle continues with the momentum you have created for it.

To change the financial conversation, we must change the conversation we have within ourselves. To do that, the only perquisite is that you want to.

To start building a meaningful connection with your money story, I’d be honored to continue this conversation with you in my book Cleopatra’s Riches
