Grace with Commitment

“Give yourself the grace of understanding with the commitment to move forward.”

This is a statement I say often when I’m working with my clients because, for me, it’s more than simply the words. In fact, it’s more than advice or guidance — it’s a positive statement filled with calls to action.

That means that each of these words is asking you to do something. Here, you’re giving yourself a positive command and following it. Action is powerful because it’s only through positive action that you’ll achieve the positive change you desire.

To better understand this, let’s highlight the fact that the words we choose to use have power and influence over us that we can often be unconscious of. These influences can be positive or negative. It’s only until we bring our attention to them that we better understand just how impactful they can be.

In this spirit, let’s break down the words in this statement to better understand and embrace their associated actions.

“Give Yourself”
Let’s start with the word “give.” The word give on its own is a command, and it becomes even more powerful to the positive when we add yourself. For many of us, this isn’t something we’re used to doing because we associate the idea of giving with giving to others.

The result? The idea of giving something to ourselves feels selfish or self-centered. But now the start of this statement gives you permission. It’s the open doorway for the rest of the positive action to take place.

“The Grace”
Thinking about the word “grace” alone brings about positive and comforting feelings. Those positive emotions keep you moving forward as you develop a conscious awareness around the way you’re feeling or what you’re thinking.

“Of Understanding”
When we’re reflecting on our actions, choices, or results, there’s a common negative default of being critical of ourselves. Utilizing the word understanding brings a positive shift to our approach. A key to success here is judgement-free understanding!

“With the Commitment”
This piece is incredibly impactful because it’s a forward-looking command! You’re combining your gateway for change, your positive approach, and now you’re making a promise to yourself.

“To Move Forward”
This part is essential for the change you desire because here you commit to the direction you’re moving toward.

The fact that I consistently utilize this statement is no accident. In fact, the formation of this sentence is no accident! I’ve designed it to contribute to your ongoing success. All you have to do is “Give yourself the grace of understanding with the commitment to move forward.”

So does this statement matter? It not only matters, it makes the difference!
